Winter tires built for Hamilton winters.
Lake-effect squalls, icy mornings on the Linc, slush on the Mountain access. The right winter tire does the heavy lifting.
Look for the mountain snowflake
The three-peak symbol means the tire passed a severe-snow traction test. M+S alone is not the same thing.
Soft rubber in the cold
Winter compounds stay flexible below 7°C, so they keep biting into cold, dry pavement too, not just snow.
Insurance discount
Ontario insurers must offer a discount for winter tires. Ask your provider how much it is worth to you.
Steel wheel packages
Tires mounted on steel wheels make every changeover faster and keep salt off your alloys.
Winter, all-weather or all-season?
Winter tires
Best grip on ice and deep snow. Swap them on in the fall and off in the spring.
All-weather tires
Snowflake rated and safe to leave on all year. A good fit for mostly-city driving.
All-season tires
Fine for spring, summer and fall. Not rated for snow, and they harden in the cold.

Winter tire questions.
Are winter tires mandatory in Ontario?
No, they are not required by law in Ontario, unlike Quebec. They are strongly recommended for Hamilton winters, and Ontario insurers must offer a discount if you use them.
Winter tires or all-weather tires?
All-weather tires carry the snowflake rating and can stay on all year, which suits mostly-city drivers. Dedicated winter tires grip best on ice and deep snow. We will help you pick based on how and where you drive.
Should I put winter tires on steel wheels?
It is a smart move. Changeovers get faster and cheaper, and road salt eats steel wheels instead of your alloys.
How long do winter tires last?
Usually four to six seasons, depending on mileage and how early they come off in spring. Replace them around 5/32 of an inch of tread.
